Lukys had always felt that farming was not for him. He had seen many things on the road to Caemlyn. Merchant guards, soldiers, and what he thought was an Aes Sedai and her Warder were some of the things he had seen in his years living on a farm near the road. He had always dreamed of wielding a sword in the protection of someone or fighting for some cause that he thought was good. His father had served in the Queen?s Guard for a time, which was how he had gotten so much land for his money when he finally retired. His father taught him a little of how to use a sword, but his mother would not have it. His parents had met while his father was still in the Queen?s Guard. His mother was the reason his father had retired a little earlier than most. She was totally against fighting and feared he would be killed in some riot or something.
So he only trained with his father when his mother was away. His father knew how he felt, he had been in Lukys? shoes at one time. His mother was very protective of him and if she knew he wanted to be a swordsman she would try to stop him.
One day, Lukys was a witness to a small group of bandits overwhelming a merchant and her two guards. He ran for his bow he had laid nearby. He had been chopping some wood. By the time he had an arrow notched and ready to fire they had already made off with the wagon, the merchant, had killed the two guards. Lukys had seen enough of this type of thing. He decided to go and get some of the best training he could get in the sword so he could stand up for people. He had also dreamed of being a warder since he was young, though, his father told him that he had heard it was some of the hardest training anyone could go through. He decided it was worth it and set out for Tar Valon without a look back. He was going to be a warder
